Skin Care Update – Spot Prone Skin

I once again have to say the words “sorry it’s been so long”, life really can take over sometimes. But I am ready to jump back into blogging, my work circumstances are a little different now, meaning I will have a little more time to blog.

I thought I would jump back into blogging with a skin/ acne update. Previously I have spoken about having acne prone skin since my teens… thats over a decade of hating my skin! Admittedly it has never been severe acne, however it’s never been clear either. I have always had enough to not feel comfortable without make up, and I know “if you let your skin breath then maybe your skin would clear”, spoken by every person who has never suffered with bad skin! Now that we are on that subject, it should be known no acne sufferer wants to hear the words “maybe you should go without makeup”.

Now, I don’t want to speak too soon, but I am currently breaking out much less than I have done before. I would love to say with certainty that there is one reason for this, however it could be a number of different reasons. I thought I would start by quickly talking about my diet, now let’s keep it as short as possible. I am now one year vegan, while also doing my best to avoid gluten (meaning not eating gluten at home).  Now I know that sounds like a pretty restrictive diet, however I really do think gluten has a bad affect on my skin. A couple of months ago I started avoiding gluten, as I had started to break out on my forehead (which is not normal for me), I had read that gluten can cause inflammation, so I decided to give gluten a wide birth for a while and see if I noticed a difference.  After changing my cereal to gluten free I started to notice a difference very quickly,  as a test I started eating cereal with gluten in again and within a couple of days my forehead had broken out! I’m no doctor but I can only conclude that my body does not agree with gluten.

The second reason I can conjure is my new skin care. For the past couple of months I have been using two new skin care products, both of which I surprisingly purchased in a health food store. I start with Pacifica Kale Detox Deep Cleansing Face Wash, following with Thayers Witch Hazel Alcohol-free Toner in Original. I follow the toner with a trusted old favourite The Body Shop Tea Tree Anti-imperfection Daily Solution. I ran out of cleanser two weeks ago, and I am waiting for my local shop to restock, since using a different cleanser I have noticed some spots around my chin and jaw starting to creep back in. Hopefully the shop will restock this week, and I really hope this blog post has been of some use to any spot sufferers out there. Although I have not been able to give you a definitive answer for the reason for my clearer skin, I have given you some ideas to try – go gluten free and try some of the vegan skin care brands I have spoken about.

Thank you for reading and good luck with your own skincare.
